Trapper Joe

It’s Father’s Day today. And I’m realizing that a big reason I’m a good dad, is because my dad did a great job of it. Look at the man, it’s not like I had any chance in hell of turning out normal!

So here’s a shout out to my Dad, the guy who took my sisters and I out to eat dinner at rocky beach, hiking at forest park. We watched him sew up doves that had been caught by the cats, followed him up to Mt. Olympus on the Ko’olau range, and experienced adventures of epic proportions in the ocean. I don’t know where he found the patience sometimes, but hopefully he got some of the same rewards I’m getting from my kids: hugs, gratitude, big smiles, and a touch of pride.

If not, you’ve got my gratitude now Dad, looking back on my childhood is helping me shape my fatherhood. It’s the  first guide to fatherhood I’ve found that I trust. Thank you.
