Reflecting

The garden at home is a tangled Shangri-La in the middle of over-managed luxury homes.

Fishtanks are far better than TV.

Reflections make for fun photography.

Full Moon

Emma, Liz and I went out to a full moon circle tonight. It was a lot less structured than the circles I usually attend, but it was a good crowd with mellow vibes. It’s an almost spontaneous event, no one is in charge, people just show up at a certain clearing on full moon nights, ready to sing, drum, play music, and revel. The truth is, I find the lack of structure encouraging.

The hike through Wa’ahila Ridge Park in the full moon is eerie, but the sound of drumming is comforting and draws you further into the forest.

The party was broken up early because of a mention of the police showing up. I’m not sure that the gathering is illegal, but I’m not sure that it’s legal either. Apparently the cops aren’t too worried about it, but the drumming carries far enough down the ridge to bother the neighbors. It’s a shame really, I like the idea of a bunch of loosely pagan people having a space to hang out like this.

Ocean Worship

I finally got to Sandys this morning. The waves were tiny, but fun. I stayed around enjoying the sun for a while after I finished my surf, so I got to watch the crowd build. This guy was enjoying playing with the sea.

Funny thing is, I had to pull a different guy out of the water, he’d broken his leg, and his son was trying to get him out. I ran over, helped pulled him out of the water and let the lifeguards take over from there. I’m not sure how he did it, but the power of the sea is not to be underestimated.

Stay strong out there, strong, limber, and most of all humble.

Sitting

I’ve been getting alot of sloth time in. I like to sit in garden, or the house and just relax and look at stuff. This place is wonderful for it. There are spots everywhere.

I went for a dive today and saw some cool fish. I found a large puffer fish sleeping under an overhang, hoping that we would just leave him alone (which we did). Emma, Sara and I also hiked up over Makapu’u light house to revel in the almost full moon.

All this slothing, and I haven’t even gone surfing yet!! I’m usually pretty militant about it, but just haven’t done it yet this trip. Soon, hopefully.

Chased

I’ve been going on very little sleep for the last few days. After driving pizzas all night, I find myself at 32,000 feet clouds slipping by at 500 miles an hour. Sleep is teaming up with the dawn, chasing me down relentlessly. It’s a losing battle, and I have to choice but to acquiesce to both. I will be home in Hawaii for the next ten days. It’s time for me to dream about what’s in store for me.
